Ultrasound

With a deft flick of the wrist he
Dissolves the snow into black
And I watch you appear.
A bright curl of life
One arm raised to
The dark heaven
Of your world.
And mine.

The whine
Of the machine
Electronic
Fades unnoticed
As your beating heart
Fills the room,
And seems to pound
In time with mine.
So tiny, impossible
To see with the eye, and yet I

Gently hold
Each beat
In my hand
And promise
To never
Let it

Go.

This sort of just wrote itself - the only vague idea I had was to make the last stanza sound like a heartbeat (don't know if that worked out, but never mind!) Anyway... if you've ever had kids, you'll know exactly what I mean - I wrote this after coming back from our second doctor's visit!

Yeah - it's soppy. So sue me!
