Metaphor

What’s this?

A key.

A key to what?

It’s a metaphor.

A metaphor for what?

You are the key,
the key is inside you.

You’re telling me who I am?

No. Where to look. You have the key.
All you need do is find what it fits.

And that’s helpful how?

Now you can stop
looking for the key.

I don't know what to say about this one. I have laid off commenting on it. I was a bit disappointed there was none of your trademark imagery but I assumed you were going for more of a mystery or a puzzle, though, I see it going in a circularity motion and ending pretty much how it started. I am sure you wrote with this in mind, perhaps the real metaphor is the poem itself. Cheers for this.

Thanks for commenting. I realize this is an odd duck of a poem for me. I'm experimenting lately and I know I'm not likely to want to keep all of them. I think you have the right idea or at least you're in the right direction. :)

PB,

You’re beginning to get a little tricky. First read I thought it was just a funny little poem; second read, the meaning caught me. Great job. Thanks for posting this and thanks for the reminder.

hey pb, i'm finally here again...sorry it took so long!! i really liked the structure of this poem--i liked the conversation, the back-and-forth feel, with the questions and such. i did think it was different than your usual stuff, like tiger said, but i think that experimenting is always important. without figuring out new things, whether they work or not, our work becomes stagnant and redundant. that being said, though, i did see definate pb-ish trademarks in the work. the playful tone is definately your style. all in all, i think it works, it just makes the reader work for the payoff, like all of your writings. and that's not such a bad thing, is it??

Thanks to all of you for the comments on this one. I was just having a bit of fun really but also sharing a little tidbit that I have come to realize. I'm a slow learner. :)

LO, I absolutely agree with all you said. Dead right. Thanks again!
