Exploration

You swam with summer stars as your guide,
Like explorers of old
you had your eye fixed on unknown,
your slender arms slowly
stroking down into endless pool
where all seemed dark.

I missed seeing you,

missed waking up with you
under blue blankets surrounded in
dreams of ocean.

Now new stars take old one's place
they crowd about and stare at your sea,
at the slow confident breast-strokes -
the form of your butterfly.

The sky shines,
swirls about the pool
as you swim
all veiled in light.
