Slowly awakened when the cat gently purrs.
Darkness softly surrounds me
with the only light showing,
from a snowy white screen; as my television
hums softly-
it is truly peaceful and safe.
A cricket gently chirps’, leaves softly rustle.
Will anyone else hear them?
So far from other lives;
if I can’t see them, are they there?
Friends send messages,
from a place far away, where darkness
is taken, by burning fires, bright flashes.
Barley a silence for them to hear, only
noise and destruction –
it is never peaceful or safe.
A mortar explodes, a round sings overhead.
Will anyone else hear them?
So far away from other lives;
if they can’t see me, am I here?
